How does the powder dynamic influence the DED-LB/M process?

Challenge and Motivation

  • Previous project shows: the formation of powder gas flow varies is significantly depending on the nozzle design.
  • Interaction of powder particles and gas stream is not depictable through high speed and layer-by-layer analysis.
  • Visualization can facilitate application-based process optimization.

Objective

  • Use combined high speed in situ Shadowgraph and Schlieren Imaging to visualize shielding gas flow and powder dynamics post- and in process
