Milling of aero engine workpiece materials (Ti- and Ni-alloys with different lubrication strategies)
Which is the most economic cooling strategy?
Challenge and Motivation
- The use of critical CO2 as alternative for conventional lubrication has been the subject of scientific research for years in the machining of materials based on Ni or Ti that are difficult to machine.
- Additional cutting oil is often used in milling Ni- based alloys.
Objective
- Investigation and comparison of conventional cooling with water-based lubrication as well as oil and advanced cooling alternatives, e.g., critical CO2.
- Economical assessment of the cooling strategies in milling.
