What are the advantages and disadvantages for air foil (finish) milling with different offset strategies?
Challenge and Motivation
- When milling blades on blisks/IBRs, different strategies for finishing (depending on boundaries e.g. geometry or OEM restrictions) with regard to the offset are used. Examples of this are:
- Block strategy
- Variable stock
- Strip strategy
Objective
- Technical evaluation of the different offset strategies considering variable blade geometries e.g. LPC vs. HPC.
- Systematic overview on the pros and cons of the different approaches.
- Economical evaluation.
