Which advantages do lasers in the visible wavelength range and customized beam profiles offer in LMD?
Challenge and Motivation
- Utilization of laser beam sources in the green and blue wavelength range as well as specialized beam shapes is known for having a positive impact on material and energy efficiency as well as component quality in AM.
- Those potentials are rather unexplored in LMD due to the lack of suitable multi-kW beam sources on the market – this changed recently with the availability of affordable multi-kW green and blue laser systems.
Objective
- Explore the potential using laser radiation in the visible wavelength range and beam shaping for LMD.
