Process optimization and tool wear compensation for advanced cutting materials

How to further optimize and qualify the advanced cutting processes for industrial application?
Challenge and Motivation
- Advanced cutting tool materials allow a substantial increase in productivity when machining turbomachinery components made from nickel-based alloys.
- In this year's project, process reliability and process understanding was significantly improved in roughing with SiAlON Ceramics and finishing with BL-PCBN.
Objective
- Development of tool wear compensation for SiAlON high feed milling for a more uniform rest material situation.
- Increase of process productivity by identification of maximum process parameters and investigation of surface integrity for qualification of the rim zone.
