Challenge and Motivation
- Barrel Tools offer significant potential to increase the productivity and part quality in finish milling of free form surfaces (Single blades, Blisks, etc.).
- However, tool definition & CAM-programming are challenging.
Objective
- Identification of possible barrel tool applications and tool suppliers.
- Determination of today’s programming capabilities of major CAM-softwares in barrel tools (NX vs Mastercam)
- Productivity and Quality evaluation of barrel-tool vs. ball-endtool in milling trials.
