What impact do advanced cutting materials have onto the machining of nickel-based alloys?

Challenge and Motivation

• Advanced cutting materials like Ceramic and CBN offer advantageous productivity in hard-to-cut materials such as nickel-based alloys.
• The resulting surface integrity of the workpiece after finishing with advanced cutting tools and progressive cutting parameters is insufficiently investigated.

Objective

• Benchmark of achieved productivity in blade manufacturing (state-of-the-art vs. advanced cutting material).
• Evaluation of resulting surface integrity and economic evaluation for both processes.
