Adaptive process control for LPBF – Novel build strategies for support reduction
Can the amount of support structures be reduced through novel LPBF-build-strategies?
Challenge and Motivation
- State of the art LPBF-processing typically requires support structures in overhang areas of the parts with an angle of less than 45°
- Supports restrict the design freedom of additive manufacturing, significantly increase the post-processing effort and reduce efficiency through longer build times, and ultimately lead to higher part costs
Objective
- Development of adapted LPBF-build- strategies for the reduction of supports
- Testing the transferability of the novel strategies to turbomachinery components
